LaDainian Tomlinson is as surprised as everyone else about the Chargers’ winless start, and how a team that was going to breeze through the AFC West and finally make another Super Bowl is in the division cellar.
How the Chargers, after two weeks, are looking up at the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos.
But that’s where the Chargers sit after being on the wrong end of a 39-38 verdict in Denver on Sunday that included two head-scratching calls which might have changed the game.
But there is no change coming and that has some Chargers followers very concerned — for no reason.
That’s Tomlinson take in wake of the second heartbreaking loss in as many weeks.

SAN DIEGO (AP)—Norv Turner did his due diligence Monday, speaking with NFL officiating honcho Mike Pereira about a big blown call in the closing minutes of Sunday’s loss at Denver, and submitting clips of other questionable calls.
He knows better, though, than to think the Chargers are going to be left with anything but another gut-wrenching loss.
“Anything that we talk about or anything that is discussed in terms of any of the rules or any of the calls, isn’t going to change the outcome of that game,” Turner said. “That game is going to be 39-38 forever.”
On Sunday, Turner was steamed after an errant whistle erased Jay Cutler’s lost fumble in the closing minutes. The Broncos scored two plays later, and a daring 2-point conversion gave them the lead.

NEW YORK — Ed Hochuli’s acknowledgement that he erred on a call late in Sunday’s San Diego Chargers-Denver Broncos game will mean lower grades for one of the NFL’s highest-profile referees.
“Officials are held accountable for their calls. They are graded on every play of every game,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. “Ed has been an outstanding official for many years, but he will be marked down for this call. Under our evaluation system, an official’s grades impact his status for potentially working the playoffs and ultimately whether or not he is retained.”
The play occurred with the Broncos at the Chargers’ 1-yard line in the final minute. Denver quarterback Jay Cutler dropped back to pass, and the ball slipped out of his hands, bounced off the grass and into the arms of San Diego linebacker Tim Dobbins.

Chargers vs. the Broncos… It is a storied rivalry that dates all the way back to the days of the AFL. These teams hate one another, and it shows when they play one another. This game was disappointing to say the least for Chargers fans, but there are many lessons that can be taken from this ugly game.
The first lesson would be this; DO NOT BUY INTO THE PRESEASON HYPE! Proclaiming a team Superbowl Champions before the first game is played is silly at best! How many people said the Chargers had the best shot to reach the big game? How does that look now? What about the people who proclaimed this defensive unit a “Shutdown Defensive Unit”? How does that stand up with two ‘for reals’ games to judge them by? What about those who said the AFC West was ours… Well I will man up. I thought our defense was all that and a case of chips. I thought the west was ours. I love this team, this defense especially. Perhaps that is why the last two games left such bitter taste in my mouth.

It’s a loss as painful as any I’ve ever experienced as a Charger fan. Not so much because of the fact that we lost, but because it was unjustly taken from us by the officiating crew of Ed Hochuli.
Normally, I have great trust in Ed and his crew. They aren’t slouches - they are regarded as one of the best crews in football. But today they blew it. Not once. Not twice. They blew it on three major occasions.
Replay was introduced to the league to prevent things like this - from preventing referee mistakes and blown calls from changing the course of an otherwise fair game. The blown call on the Cutler fumble with 1:14 left in the fourth quarter changed the course of the game. Tim Dobbins’ recovery of that fumble - and let’s not mince words, it was a FUMBLE in every true sense of the term - would have led to the victory formation and a 1-1 Charger record, tied with Denver for the lead in the AFC West.

DENVER — Playing with house money, Mike Shanahan went for the 2-point conversion with 29 seconds left and Jay Cutler hit rookie Eddie Royal over the middle to give the Denver Broncos a 39-38 win over the stunned San Diego Chargers on Sunday.
The Chargers (0-2) didn’t believe they should have lost in the final seconds for the second straight week.
Trailing 38-31, the Broncos (2-0) reached the Chargers’ 1 but on third-and-goal, Cutler reared back to throw and the ball slipped out of his hands, bounced off the grass and into linebacker Tim Dobbins’ hands.
